When I worked at Børnenes Boghandel, I discovered that there weren't many books about learning to play music. At the same time, I had just started learning to play the clarinet myself. That's why I was simply inspired to make the picture book Evi and the Clarinet. The book is written for children aged 2-4, and while you read, you can play clarinet melodies that match the pages in the book.
My music partner Ronan Perrett, who is a really good clarinet player, and I have visited a number of cultural centres and libraries with our musical reading aloud and jam session. Here I read the book aloud and make gestures with an Evi doll, while Ronan plays the accompanying clarinet music. When the book is finished, we invite all the children to play music with us in a joint jam session.
I am currently developing the concept further with a special focus on kindergartens. Here, the children will be involved even more in the creation of music, and where we will also add sound and music to books from the kindergartens' bookshelves.
